Nooksack Valley high schoolers have statewide success in FFA
In a tradition befitting Nooksack Valley High School, the 2019 FFA State event filled with success from NVHS teams and individuals.
The state FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Team placed second in the state as a team with the individual placements also impressive. Hannah DeWeber placed third, Maddie Martin seventh and Elizabeth Conner 10th. The team consisted of DeWeber, Martin, Conner, Allie Bird, Aubree Bird and Emi Garcia.
The FFA Marketing Plan team of Nicci Vermeer, Aubree Bird and Renae Hoekema made it to the state finals and the state FFA Horse Judging Team placed seventh in state with Ivy Thompson placing as the ninth-highest individual. Team members for that team included Ivy Thompson, Ella Thompson, Brylee Brevik, Lily Chorvat and Avery Stremler.
The FFA Milk Quality and Production team went against 42 teams, grabbing eighth overall in the state. The team consists of Aidan Conner, Gabby Levine, Kennedy Hance and Sarah Sande.
In a 43-team statewide pool and what FFA advisor Rhonda Juergens called one of the most competitive events at state, the FFA Food Science team “did an amazing job” and earned second in state. Elizabeth Conner took home first overall as an individual, the highest-scoring individual in the contest out of more than 200 students. Kendall Newton placed ninth. Members of the team included Newton, Conner, Madison Hem, Allie Bird and Sydney Beck.
