Update from Superintendent Mark Johnson

Dear Parents;

I hope that this note finds you all healthy and thriving to the best of your abilities during this time.  Here are a few updates;

1.     Feedback:  There are a few themes that are emerging from the feedback we are receiving from you. First, our parents and community are grateful for our amazing staff and the efforts they are putting forth to remotely keep learning moving forward in your homes.  Second, there was an appreciation for the adjustments our staff have made along the way (remember that our theme was/is “Launch. Learn.   Adjust”).

2.     Goldilocks, Distance Learning Style:  All of us remember the story of Goldilocks, who is always seeking the “just right” porridge, chair, and bed.  We are all also seeking the “just right” amount and level of expected learning from home.  The feedback we’ve received thus far indicates that we are finding that “just right” spot with most students, and that continued work needs to be done.  As you can imagine, this “just right” spot for learning can be very different, depending on the child and other variables. Our commitment to you is to continue to seek that just right level for you and your child(ren).  The best way to achieve that is for you and your child’s teacher to stay in regular communication.

3.     System “Platform”:  There are a number of learning “platforms” that schools can use to communicate and “teach” remotely with you.  Our middle and high schools are using TEAMS.  Our elementary schools are trying on a number of these platforms.  We want you to know that we will be moving toward a system wide platform so that students and families have a consistent tool to engage in learning with us.  This will happen in the fall.

4.     Next Fall:  Our state superintendent indicated last week that “we will likely be in some type of hybrid learning model next fall”.  He does not expect us to be operating as normal to start the 2020-21 school year. They have also established a task force, working with the Governor’s office, to determine various options for starting school.  Their work is to be completed over the next 5-6 weeks.  We are not expecting any of these options to be “school as normal”. Again, stay tuned.  You now know what I know!

Queridos padres,

Espero que esta nota los encuentre a todos sanos y prósperos lo mejor que se puede durante este tiempo. Aquí hay algunas actualizaciones;

1.    Comentarios:Hay algunos temas que están surgiendo de los comentarios que estamos recibiendo de ustedes. En primer lugar, nuestros padres y la comunidad están agradecidos por nuestra increíble personal y los esfuerzos que están poniendo adelante para seguir aprendiendo de forma remota y que los estudiantes puedan avanzar en sus hogares. En segundo lugar, hubo un agradecimiento por los ajustes que nuestro personal ha realizado en el camino (recuerde que nuestro tema fue / es "Lanzar. Aprender. Ajustar").

2.    Goldilocks, estilo de aprendizaje a distancia:Todos recordamos la historia de Ricitos de oro, que siempre está buscando la papilla, la silla y la cama "perfectas". Todos también estamos buscando la cantidad "justa" y el nivel de aprendizaje esperado desde casa. La retroalimentación que hemos recibido hasta ahora indica que estamos encontrando ese lugar "perfecto" con la mayoría de los estudiantes, y que es necesario continuar trabajando. Como pueden imaginar, este lugar "perfecto" para el aprendizaje puede ser muy diferente, dependiendo del niño y otras variables. Nuestro compromiso con usted es continuar buscando el nivel justo para usted y su (s) hijo (s). La mejor manera de lograrlo es que usted y el maestro de su hijo/hija se quede en comunicación regular.

3.     Sistema "Plataforma": Hay una serie de "plataformas" de aprendizaje que las escuelas pueden usar para comunicarse y "enseñar" de forma remota con usted. Nuestras escuelas intermedias y secundarias están utilizando EQUIPOS. Nuestras escuelas primarias están probando varias de estas plataformas. Queremos que sepan que avanzaremos hacia una plataforma de todo el sistema para que los estudiantes y las familias tengan una herramienta consistente para participar en el aprendizaje con nosotros.   Esto sucederá en el otoño.

4.     El próximo otoño:Nuestro superintendente estatal indicó la semana pasada que "probablemente estaremos en algún tipo de modelo de aprendizaje híbrido el próximo otoño". No espera que estemos operando normalmente para comenzar el año escolar 2020-21. También han establecido un grupo de trabajo, trabajando con la oficina del gobernador, para determinar varias opciones para comenzar la escuela. Su trabajo se completará en las próximas 5-6 semanas. No esperamos que ninguna de estas opciones sea "escolar como de costumbre".  Nuevamente, estamos atentos. ¡Ahora saben lo que yo sé!
