As the Nooksack Valley High School Esports and Technology Club continues to grow within the school, the club now plans to reach well beyond NVHS and host the Whatcom Highschools Esports Expo on May 26.

Owen Craig, the district's director of technology, launched the club just a few months ago and already has formed an esports team that competes against other schools in Washington. The club has grown to over 30 students. Some students compete on the esports team, while others help with livestreaming, designing flyers, planning for fundraising, fixing computers and planning for the upcoming expo. Overall, Craig calls the new club a hit.

The Whatcom Highschools Esports Expo is designed for students, parents, teachers and administrators to gain a better understanding about the impact esports can have on students and schools, all while learning about the curriculum behind the competition.

Nooksack Valley has lined up four speakers, including professional streamer TacticalGramma, her manager, the executive director of the Washington Scholastic Esports Association and a representative from Highschool.gg, a career technical student organization. Craig says the students will also invite local political representatives to the event and expects colleges from Whatcom County to have tables setup showcasing the technology programs they offer.

The expo runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at the Nooksack Valley High School Performing Arts Center at 3326 E. Badger Rd., Everson. The event will be livestreamed at Twitch.tv/Nooksackesports.
