Hello Valley,

As you may recall, my first message to the district went out in early July. I made mention of an "entry plan" in which I would be listening and learning about the current state of our school district through the eyes of all stakeholders. Early in the fall, I was able to meet with staff members across the district and gain their perspectives. I have been able to see what each school is working on as I have attended late arrivals and early dismissals. Through this first phase, I have tried to capture the work we are doing at all levels to achieve our mission, which is to “ensure the success of all students.”

As you will see, we have articulated our work in two documents. The first, our “Theory of Action,” is how we intend to achieve our mission at all levels of the system. The second is our commitment to ensure each and every student and family feels a sense of belonging through culture of dignity, a precursor to achievement and success. I encourage you to read these documents and reflect on you and your child’s experiences in our system. Do you see evidence of these practices and commitments? Where are we doing well in your eyes? Where can we improve?

As we enter spring and the final month of school it is time for phase 2 of the entry plan, community feedback. Last week we opened a survey (EES-Family Survey Link: Nooksack Valley SD) meant to give us perception data from parents relating to the effectiveness of our district schools. If you haven’t already, please click the above link to take the survey. We are also excited to open our doors and welcome the community in to discuss the state of the district. Below you will see a few dates we will be sharing our work and asking for your feedback.

The last 25 months have been challenging for all of us. Prior to covid, the NVSD had seen over two decades of high achievement and success. In partnership with you, we will set a course for the next two decades to ensure that same success and achievement for all our children! We look forward to seeing you at one of the nights listed above.

With gratitude,

Matt Galley

Hola Nooksack Valley,
