Cristal Campos will take the role of the new assistant principal of Nooksack Valley Middle School as Tom Harmon transitions into a full-time district activities and athletics coordinator.

"Because of enrollment and all the new challenges our students face," says Matt Galley, superintendent, about the middle school, "this has become a full-time position. Having spent the majority of her career there, as well as a successful internship, we feel it is a perfect fit."

Campos, who is fluent in Spanish, recently served as an English Language Learner specialist and administrative intern at Nooksack Valley Middle School before working as an assistant principal at the high school for this past school year.

She started working for the district 13 years ago as a paraeducator and soon moved into her ELL role. As an ELL specialist she worked with students to help them gain language development, partnered with teachers to support them with curriculum development and classroom helps and served as both an interpreter and advocate for parents.

Harmon, who had been working the jobs of both athletics and activities and middle school assistant principal can now concentrate on the growing requirements of athletics and activities. "Tom will be able to fully focus on our athletic programs and expand his reach into student activities like clubs and student leadership," Galley says. "Tom has long been doing two full-time jobs and neither has gotten smaller."
