  • 13 Reasons Why…Suicide Awareness( click here for information)

Last spring the Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, captured the attention of youth globally and created countless discussions among teens and some between teens and their families about suicide, mental health, bullying and more. Concerns were raised by mental health advocacy groups and experts about whether the series presented risks to some viewers because of how the show addressed some of these important and complicated issues. Given the gravity of these issues, we believe it is important to convey our concerns and recommendations to parents, educators and professionals in an effort to help reduce the risk of a tragedy.

May 1st begins our Smarter Balance State Testing here at NVMS. The first two weeks of the testing schedule will be in Notes Home next week. Please remember that during testing, attendance is very important. Try to schedule appoints for after school. If your student does have to miss a day, or even part of a day, please notify the office/teacher ASAP so that alternative testing time can be arranged. Besides attendance, proper nutrition and plenty of sleep every night will give your student the ability to do their best each day.

  • Head Lice Information

FROM THE NURSE: Please make a practice of checking your student’s hair for head lice and nits. This time of year, we see an increase in the number of cases and need your help in preventing the spread. The most effective screening occurs when parents check their children at home, treat if any are found, and make efforts to remove the nits. Please remind your student not to share hats with their friends. If you have any questions regarding head lice, please contact Lynnette Ondeck @360-966-7561, ext 3117. For more information, visit CDC site at https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/parents.html
