|About Me: |
I have worked in the Nooksack Valley School District since the 2003-04 school year, serving students in K through 12. I have been a Whatcom County resident since 1993 and have lived in Sumas for the past 7 years. Prior to relocating to beautiful Northwest Washington I spent 20 years in Southern California, where I earned a Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from California State University, Los Angeles. My experience in California included: California Children's Services; consultation to private schools and Head Start programs; direct service and consultation to early intervention public school programs and to learning disabled students.
I developed and directed infant/pre-school programs for the local school districts in California and operated 3 out-patient clinics for children, with primary emphasis on therapy for sensory integrative dysfunction. I am certified in administration of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests and was most fortunate to have served an internship with Dr. A. Jean Ayres, who developed the theory and intervention strategies for remediation of sensory integration deficits. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the Indiana University School of Medicine, division of Allied Health in 1973.
Although I have explored other avenues of practice from time to time in occupational therapy, my heart has always been with the children. I am happy to be part of the multi-disciplinary team here at NVSD, where teachers and staff have the highest level of commitment in helping students to reach their full potential, not just academically, but also in preparing them for daily life outside of school.
